Please Click Here for information regarding accommodation options.

Do I have access to the classroom after hours?

Our classroom is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  A refundable $20 key deposit is required to sign out a classroom key.  You are free to use the key to access the classroom facility during the full duration of the course.  The $20 deposit will be refunded when the key is returned.

What do I wear to class?

Neat, comfortable and casual attire.  There is no requirement to wear a pilot uniform.  Please keep in mind the classroom has reverse cycle air conditioning and is kept at a comfortable temperature.  Shoes are to be worn to class at all times.

Do I need to have an ARN number?

You are not required to have an Australian Reference Number (ARN) to complete our ATPL theory course, however you will need an ARN and CPL Theory pass to book any CASA ATPL CyberExams.

When is my account due?

All theory course, accommodation, supply shop and CASA/ASL examination fees are due on day one of the course.  You will be issued with a full statement showing all charges incurred and deposits paid.

Before moving onto the next subject of the Full-Time Ground school, you must ensure your account is up-to-date and payment has been made for previously attended subjects.  We are unable to issue course material to students who have outstanding accounts.

CASA CyberExams can’t be booked on your behalf unless CASA/ASL fees have been paid by you to us prior to booking.

 Are credit card facilities available?

Yes – EFTPOS facilities including credit card (Visa, Mastercard and Bankcard) are available.  Unfortunately we do not accept  Diners Club. American Express card transactions incure a 2% surcharge.

 Do you accept personal cheques?

Yes, we do accept personal cheques.  Please write the full name, address and telephone number of the cheque holder on the back of the cheque.  If cheques are dishonoured the appropriate bank fees will be charged to your account.

What bank facilities are available in the local area?

An ATM is located at the Airport Terminal.  Should you require more specific banking services (including cashing Travellers Cheque and Foreign Money) a Bank of Queensland is located at the local shopping centre which is within walking distance to the Airport.  Australia Post is also located at the local shopping centre and provides basic banking services for Commonwealth Bank customers.

All major banks are located at Maroochydore which is a 15 minute drive from the Airport.

What parking facilities are available?

Advanced Flight Theory has its own carpark located at the western side of the complex.  There is no charge to park in this carpark.

Are Internet facilities available?

Yes, we have an Internet Cafe with 10 computers permanently online available for study and personal use.  The Internet Cafe is open from 8.30 am – 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. Costs to use the Internet Cafe are $1.00 for 10 minutes or $5.00 for 1 hour.

What about lunch and other meals?

The AFT complex has two kitchens available for student use.  Coffee and Tea are provided complimentary to all students.  Each kitchen contains a large refrigerator and microwave.  There is also a vending machine containing soft drinks, chips and confectionary.  You are welcome to bring your own lunch and use the facilities provided.

The Runway Snack Bar has a delivery service offering everything from homemade meals to sandwiches.  Their prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious!  A cafe is also located within the Airport Terminal and  AFT students are entitled to a Loyalty Discount.  Discount cards can be obtained from the AFT office. The noticeboards located in AFT’s Kitchens have information on various cafe’s.

Do I need to book my CASA CyberExams for each subject studied in the classroom?

No - We have secured our own booking sessions with Aviation Services Limited (ASL) and will book the examinations on your behalf. Our Course Co-ordinator’s Vanessa and Kate will ask you to complete an examination form on day one of each subject.

CASA/ASL CyberExam fees are not included in your course fees.

Unfortunately, CASA CyberExams can’t be booked on your behalf unless CASA/ASL fees have been paid by you to us prior to booking.

Am I guaranteed a CASA CyberExam position will be available to me on every subject?

While we make every effort to ensure all of our students are able to complete the CASA CyberExam at the end of each subject, there are occasions where ASL is not able to accommodate all of our student bookings with their limited computer and supervisor availability at the Maroochydore venue.  When ASL is not able to make enough positions available for all of our students we must give priority to students attending the course for the first time and students re-sitting an exam may need to attend a different exam session.

We regret that availability of CASA/ASL exam bookings are totally beyond our control.

What happens to my course deposit if I defer or cancel?

For students wishing to defer or cancel courses we are able to transfer or refund course deposits.  We understand  the instability of the aviation industry with regard to leave applications and do our best to be flexible and accommodate any changes you wish to make.  We are happy to transfer deposits to other courses and to give refunds on unused deposits.

Accommodation deposits cannot be refunded unless we can fill the vacancy created.

What conditions apply to re-sitting subjects I need to spend more time on?

Advanced Flight Theory’s Full Time Course Resit Policy:

If after attending our full time course, you are not totally prepared to sit the CASA CyberExaminations, or you are having difficulty with any aspect of the course, you are welcome to return and resit all or any part of the course you have paid for once, with no additional course fee. If necessary, you may also resit all or any part of the course more than once, subject to the following simple conditions…

The resit policy applies on the basis that the course fee when you resit the first time, is the same as the course fee you originally paid.  Should increased course fees apply at the time of the resit, you will need to pay the difference between the original fee paid and the current fee to upgrade for that subject.

Should you need to resit a subject more than once, you will be required to pay a resit fee of $100 per subject for each additional time you wish to attend the subject.  Resit positions are subject to availability and must be taken within 3 years of initial attendance.  After the 3 year period expires, normal course fees apply once again.

In all cases where you are resitting a subject, we provide that service on the basis that you are to use your original course notes in class. If you wish to have a new set of AFT course notes provided for any subject you are resitting, there is a small fee of $50.00 per subject to reprint all of the AFT course material for that subject. You can then insert the new notes into you existing binder.

Reprint fees do not include the re-issue of binders, commercial Air Law index’s or any text books provided by authors other than Advanced Flight Theory. These items can be purchased individually from our Pilot Supply Shop if required.
