CASA Regulatory Documents

If you are attending our ATPL(A) Full Time Ground School or you are studying via our Distance Learning Course, you need the following CASA Regulatory Documents to complete the course.

The CASA Regulatory Documents are not included in your Full Time Ground School or Distance Learning Course fee. You need to have the current edition of all documents to complete the CASA PEXO Exams.

Aeronautical Information Publication

The AIP consists of a package of documents which provide all of the operational information necessary for the safe and efficient conduct of national (civil) and international air navigation throughout Australia. A 12 month amendment service is included in the purchase price.

Civil Aviation Act and Regulations

The Civil Aviation Act provides the primary legislative base for air safety control in Australia and contains a number of important regulatory provisions. In accordance with the Civil Aviation Act the Regulations contain the mandatory regulatory requirements in relation to airworthiness and operational matters, licensing and requirements, enforcement powers and air traffic control. A 12 month amendment service is included in the purchase price.

Civil Aviation Orders (CAO)

The Regulations make provision for CAO, which includes information on technical standards and specifications. In particular, they contain detailed mandatory operational, airworthiness and safety requirements, including design requirements, standards, specifications, mandatory operational, technical procedures and safety instructions. A 12 month amendment service is included in the purchase price.

Enroute Supplement Australia (ERSA) with RDS

The ERSA contains essential aeronautical information for both flight planning and operations. It includes pictorial representations of all licensed and some unlicensed aerodromes, including physical characteristics, operating hours and operator details, visual guide aids, air traffic services, NAVAID details and lighting descriptions. The ERSA needs to be replaced with the latest version every three months.

If you are attending a Full Time Ground School course, all of these items can be purchased from our pilot supply shop on the first day of your course, so you do not need to worry about obtaining them before you arrive.

Important Note: Departure and Approach Procedures (DAP) East and West is a permitted reference for the CASA Air Law PEXO Exam, however the main topic covered by the Air Law syllabus that requires reference to DAP East and West is noise curfew procedures and requirements. If you do not already have DAP East and West and wish to avoid the considerable cost of purchasing these documents, you should familiarise yourself with noise curfew procedures before sitting the CASA Air Law PEXO Exam.


Navigation Equipment, Maps and Charts

If you are attending our Full Time Ground School course you will also need to provide the following navigation equipment, maps and charts.

These items are not included in your Full Time Ground School fee.

  • Jeppesen CR-3 or APR CR-6 circular navigation computers
  • Water Soluble Pen
  • ERC Low complete *
  • ERC High complete *
  • TAC complete *
  • Planning Chart Australia *
  • * TAC, ERC and PCA need to be replaced with the latest version every six months.

    Terminal Area Chart (TAC)

    TAC provide both aeronautical information for IFR operations in the vicinity of major aerodromes and show controlled air space, prohibited, restricted and danger areas, air routes, ATS and radio-navigation services.

    Enroute Chart Low (ERC-Low)

    The ERC Low are drawn to various scales to accommodate significant air traffic route areas and show controlled air space, prohibited, restricted and danger areas, air routes, ATS and radio-navigation services.

    Enroute Chart High (ERC-High)

    The ERC High are drawn to various scales to accommodate significant air traffic route areas and show controlled air space, prohibited, restricted and danger areas, air routes, ATS and radio-navigation services.

    Planning Chart Australia (PCA)

    The Planning Chart Australia contains the meteorological Area Forecast boundaries and locations, communication coverage outside controlled air space and WAC coverage.
